Fijación de Nitrógeno: Fundamentos y Aplicaciones.
Editors: Eulogio. J. Bedmar. Jesús J. González, Carmen Lluch and Belén Rodelas
ISBN: 84-611-1198-5 (2006), 17 x 24 cm, 332 pages. 28 chapters, with over 90 illustrations.
This book examines biological nitrogen fixation in both free-living and symbiotic systems through reviews carried out by different research groups belonging to SEFIN. It is organized into three distinct sections that explore the nitrogen fixation process in the biosphere, the Rhizobium–legume interaction, and the ecological and agronomic implications of the process.
The chapters cover topics such as the genomic diversity and evolution of diazotrophic endosymbionts; the biochemistry and molecular biology of the enzymes involved; the signals and interactions between rhizospheric microorganisms; the molecular dialogue between symbionts; and the carbon, nitrogen, oxidative, and hormonal metabolism of the nodule as a unique organ generated during symbiosis.
In addition, the book reviews endophytic and actinorhizal associations, as well as those formed with mycorrhizal fungi or PGPRs. It also addresses bacterial inoculant production, phytoremediation of soils, and biodegradation—all key elements in sustainable agriculture.

Fundamentos y aplicaciones agroambientales de las interacciones beneficiosas plantas-microorganismos

In June 2008, the 12th Meeting of the Spanish Society for Nitrogen Fixation (SEFIN) was held in Estoril, coinciding with the 1st Hispano–Portuguese Congress on Nitrogen Fixation, an event that marked the inception of this book. With this publication, we have sought to produce a work that updates scientific knowledge in the field of plant–microorganism interactions and their applications in agriculture and the environment.
This book is the successor to “Fijación de Nitrógeno: Fundamentos y Aplicaciones” (Nitrogen Fixation: Fundamentals and Applications), published by SEFIN in 2006, and continues the Society’s editorial line. It therefore has a scientific perspective, while aiming for an accessible level suitable for university professors and students, who are among its main intended readership.
The book brings together contributions from researchers in Spain and Portugal, representing the leading research groups in the field. As a result, each chapter has been written by genuine specialists in their respective areas, ensuring both scientific depth and an educational, engaging approach.
The book consists of 29 monographic chapters, beginning with a historical review of nitrogen fixation research in Spain over the past 50 years.
